Winterland – Aug 23

Winterland will be making their debut at the Tangled Wood on Friday, August 23 from 6-9pm.

Specializing in the Grateful Dead’s catalog and sound from 1969 through the late 1970s, Winterland pulls you back in time to a place where the Dead’s rhythm and blues, folk and country roots were still deeply embedded in their music even as they explored the wild and experimental outer reaches of psychedelic rock. More importantly, though, Winterland channels the music of the Grateful Dead with uncanny authenticity, a sublime fidelity to the Dead’s musicianship, tonality and, in particular, emotional relationship with the audience. Walk into any given Winterland show and witness firsthand: every face is radiant, reflecting the elation of sharing — with the band and with each other — the pure, innovative, beautifully complex music of the Dead. This interconnectedness, which breaks down the barriers between people and music and allows everyone to become collaborators in an elusive web of fleeting, living art, represents an essential unity of musical experience. In other words, what Winterland has attained has proven to be a microcosm of the feat that the Grateful Dead of the late ‘60s to the late ‘70s achieved and escalated to a full-fledged cultural phenomenon. It is a thing of subtle and wily magic, not to be missed.

There are songwriters, there are singers and there are musicians … then there’s Daniel Stratman.

For over 30 years this talented troubadour has been entertaining the masses with his pop-friendly ballads and likable “Average Joe” persona. It’s not unusual to hear, “Who wrote that song?” from someone in the audience enjoying a Daniel Stratman original.

His words and melodies have an air of familiarity. Daniel’s songs are distinctive, charismatic and appeal to a wide audience. It’s a diverse blend inspired, primarily, from the Southern California lifestyle he’s been part of for the last 25 (+) years. Combined with intelligent lyric and a coastal “vibe,” Daniel flows between country, folk, rock, and pop music themes with ease.

Stratman’s style is full of imagination and has exceptional crossover potential. His music represent glimpses of life and the strong emotions that oftentimes surround it. Daniel says, “I enjoy music where the musicians play fewer notes, yet make them mean more.” With 5 cd’s already in the “can” and showing no signs of slowing down, it’s safe to say the best is yet to come.

Daniel remains a full time artist and keeps an active performance schedule.

Tony Hoeppner & Friends – Aug 9

Stop on out to the main stage at the Tangled Wood to hear Tony Hoeppner & Friends playing on Friday, August 9 from 6-9pm.

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Tony Hoeppner has recruited three of his longtime friends to form the acoustic guitar band “Tony Hoeppner & Friends”. Tony is joined onstage by Ron Wilson (bass), Jim Van Acker (drums), and Rick Maddelein (guitar). The band started playing together in high school and continued joining forces occasionally throughout the years, including the founding of the popular rock group “Blue Collar Band”. The band enjoys performing a healthy dose of easy-listening versions of rock songs as well as blues, R&B, and country.
